MYX HIT CHART 2009(THE RUNDOWN)

Myx Hit Chart, a text vote- based countdown in the Philippines ended this year with a year-end special where songs from the whole year will be ranked based on their performance, popularity and the votes that made the songs possible in every chart show. Every week, fans of the artist that is fighting for the top spot cannot wait for the weekly results that happen every Sunday from 9 pm- 11 pm. In addition, they have this daily countdown where the votes were counted every single day. It makes the weekly charts more exciting. Another branch of the Myx Hit Chart is the Myx International Top 20 or the so-called M.I.T20. The foreign music videos are ranked weekly, just like the Pinoy Myx Countdown but only O.P.M artist are included.
This year was a shining year from various artists, both local and foreign. The year started with Paramore’s “Decode” on its fourth week on the number one spot. It was also a bright year for the country pop sensation Taylor Swift. She is the first foreign country singer that made it to the top spot since Myx’s first airing all the way back to 2002. She spent eight consecutive weeks at number one with her smash hit “ Love Story”. She also stayed at the Myx Hit Chart for 18 weeks. Another artist that made big this year is the AI Season 7 Runner up David Archuleta. He ended the year 2008 with a song that topped for 5 weeks entitled “Crush”. This year, after Crush jumps out of the charts, his song “A Little Too Not Over You” debuted at no. 9 and went straight to no. 1 for 3 weeks. He also topped the charts for the second time this year with his third single from his debut album. “Touch My Hand” stayed at the top for eight weeks, tied with Taylor Swift who also charted for 8 weeks. After their David vs. David concert, AI Season 7 Champion, David Cook made big at the weekly charts. His single “Come Back to Me”, stayed at the summit for 3 weeks but stayed in the charts for 14 weeks. Miley Cyrus is also a big star this year. After ending 4th in the 2008 Myx Hit Chart year-end countdown, Miley Cyrus continues to be the youngest foreign singer to hit no. 1. Speaking of young artist that hit no. 1, new act Justin Bieber just popped up and suddenly jumps to the top with his carrier single from his debut album, “My World”. “One Time” remains at no. 1 for eight non-consecutive weeks.
Few O.P.M artists made it to the top of the Myx Hit Chart List. It was a drought for Pinoy songs and only three artists was able to stay at no.1. Pedicab starts the year with “FX”, at the top for 2 weeks. Sarah Geronimo has two singles that topped the charts, “You Changed My Life in a Moment”; a soundtrack of the hit movie of Sarah and John Lloyd topped the chart for 2 weeks. Hale was hailed for one week with their beautiful song from their all-Tagalog album “Kundiman” entitled “Bahay Kubo”. Many O.P.M artists made it to the top five but not quite in the top spot just like the three. Many songs only settled at the bottom half of the charts. The ratio for foreign to O.P.M this year only ranges from 12:8-14:6. It happens only once that the ratio is 10:10.
Korean acts were the huge shockers on this year’s Myx Hit Chart. Twelve Korean Songs made it to the foreign charts but only seven made it to the Myx Hit Chart. Even if only one Korean song made it to the top spot (I Don’t Care by 2ne1 for 1 week), six of seven songs that touched the top ten made it to the top three. “Fire” and “It’s You” peaked at no. 2 while “Nobody” and “Genie” peaked at no. 3. “Sorry Sorry” only peaked at no. 8 and “Blue Tomorrow” made it to the Daily charts a week ago.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2009 MYX HIT CHART
Every week is a highlight for the songs on Myx Hit Chart, but these are only few of them:
· Taylor Swift stayed at the charts with four consecutive songs making her visible on the charts for 47 straight weeks and still counting.
· Sarah Geronimo is the longest stayed local artist at no.1. Two songs made it to the top: “You Changed My Life in a Moment” and “Dahil Minahal Mo Ako” with a total of 3 weeks. Short compared to “A Very Special Love” that stayed at no.1 for 5 weeks on 2008.
· Local songs have a total of 6 weeks on number 1.
· Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me” jumped to number 1 after debuting just a week before.
· 2ne1’s “I Don’t Care” is the only Korean song that topped the chart since Myx’s birth.
· David Archuleta’s two 2009 hits made it to the top a week after its debut. A Little Too Not Over You debuted at no. 9 then jumped to number 1 while Touch My Hand debuted at no. 10 then jumped to number one.
· Three songs stayed at no. 1 for eight weeks, Love Story, Touch My Hand and One Time.
· When a Korean single made it to the Myx Hit Chart on its third week or earlier at the International countdown, it will surely hit the top 3.
· Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me” is the second longest stay at no.1 for 4 consecutive weeks.
· Lady Gaga is the only artist that has five songs all entered in the Myx Hit Chart.

MYX HIT CHART YEAR END COUNTDOWN PREDICTIONS by: Mr. Analyzer

It's my first post in my first blog. It's all first...

Well, as we all know, Myx Hit Chart 2009 was a great chart for everyone. This year is known as the kpop year. Early this year kpop sensation Rain entered the charts but didn't make it long.. Uhmm, let us not talk about that. This blog is entitled my predictions for the year end countdown...
(This is in no particular order and it was based on the inverse point system)

10. Hale- Bahay Kubo (from the album Kundiman) weeks on the chart:12 peaked at no. 1 for a week

This is probably one of the best opm song for 2009. Hale's first single from their new album "Kundiman". This song made it to the top spot but holding it for one week isn't enough to make it at the top 5 of the year end countdown. it is also one of the best music video of Hale on their career. Featuring Heart Evangelista on the music video and best lyrics with a slamming melody. There will be a possibility that they will make it to the top 10.

9. Hale- Sandali Na Lang

weeks on chart: 13 peaked at no.2

As their first single from the new album is at no. 10, their last single from their previous album, Above Over and Beyond ends up at no. 9 on my predictions. Unlike "Bahay Kubo", Sandali Na Lang only peaked at no. 2 but showed a strong power to stay there for a couple of weeks. Well, two songs in the top ten and the highest opm song in my prediction, Hale was phenomenal for this year overtaking songs from Sarah Geronimo, Sponge Cola and even Sandwich. Kudis for them.

8. Paramore- I Caught Myself

weeks on chart: 13 peaked at no. 2

Before deciding to make my own blogger, I first surveyed some people of the top 10 year end countdown for Myx Hit Chart. This song never appeared on their predictions. But, this song showed Edward Cullen power to make it on the 8th spot on my prediction. At first, i didn't expect that this song will make it. But overtaking the two highest opm song in my prediction, i said, WOW. Paramore's second single from the Twilight soundtrack. It stayed at the daily charts for 45 days and 2 days at the top, this song really rocks.

7. 2ne1- Fire

weeks on chart: 12 peaked at no. 2

Like what i have said, this year was a kpop year. 2ne1 is one of the most successful group in the Philippines when it comes to korean pop music. The "eh eh eh eh, 2ne1" became the lyrics of everyone in mid year. Everybody knows their song and another factor is Sandara Park. She regains her fans and started to love her again that's why they ended no. 7 on my predictions. And it is also the highest korean song on my predictions.

6. David Cook- Come Back To Me

weeks on chart: 14 peaked at no. 1 for 3 weeks

David Cook's second single is better than the 1st one. Light On peaked at no. 3 and stayed at the chart for 12 weeks. This song became popular for its music video( the backwards, remember?). I was also amazed on the music video. It is David Cook's first number one song in the Myx Hit Chart. And one of the American Idols that made it through the top. He released 2 singles on the radio but didn't make it at the Myx.

5. Taylor Swift- You Belong With Me

weeks on chart:14 peaked at no.1 for 4 weeks

Country sensation Taylor Swift started the top 5 with her 3rd single from her successful album, Fearless. It regains requests and airplays on the radio and when the music video came out in Myx, it debuted on the Daily charts at no.6 and made it to the top on her third day. It is the 4th longest stay at the top(3 songs made it 8 weeks). And she deserves the top 5. Maybe next year will start another Taylor Swift. The chart goddess.

4. Miley Cyrus- The Climb

weeks on chart: 16 peaked at no. 1 for 3 weeks

Overtaking a 4week leader, Miley Cyrus is one of the teen pop sensation this year. After ending 4th place on last years year ender. Will she be able to make it 4th again? On my prediction, it did. This song did well in the Myx Hit Chart peaking at no.1 and stayed for 3 weeks. It is also one of the longest song in the chart. Standing for 16 weeks, it has a big possibility to make it to the top 5.

3. Justin Bieber- One Time

weeks on chart:14 peaked at no. 1 for 8 nonconsecutive weeks

Starting the top 3 is new artist Justin Bieber. Managed by Usher, Justin Bieber is one of the most successful foreign artist of the year in the Chart. His debut made him big in the Philippine Music charts. He holds the crown for 8 non consecutive weeks and even defending it from Miley Cyrus' Party In The USA. He has the ability to made it first in the Myx Hit Chart but let us see the 2 songs that made it to my prediction.

2. David Archuleta- Touch My Hand

weeks on chart:16 peaked at no. 1 for 8 weeks

Second biggest song in the Myx Hit Chart in 2009 is David Archuleta. After releasing his debut album in the Philippines, 3 singles were released and all these songs topped the Myx Hit Chart for several weeks. But this song is the biggest. It stayed at the top for 8 weeks, the first male foreign artist to do so. Maybe this song wasn't so impressing when it comes to music videos(unlike Crush and A Little Too Not Over You) but the lyrics, melody and the voice was awesome and fantastic. But is this song contented at the runner up poistion this year. Let us see which song and artist overtook him.

1. TAYLOR SWIFT- LOVE STORY

weeks on chart: 18 peaked at no.1 for 8 weeks

The song of the year, my predictions said. The best of the best. This song topped in almost all charts in the Philippines. What else can you ask for on this song, brilliant music video, beautiful singer, fantastic lyrics, almost all. But did you know that this song only peaked at no. 4 in the billboard top 100. But this song is in the charts for a year. This song was the first foreign song to hit number one for 8 consecutive weeks. In her 18 weeks on chart, she spent almost all of her weeks in the top 10. Will this song topped the top Myx Hit Chart year end? Or will David and Justin will do? Let's all find out on the Myx Hit Chart year end countdown. December 27, 2009 9pm.
